I can't figure out how to use the fondue pot without boiling the cheese to death. It gets too hot! It will be good for the hot oil dinner-type fondues though. That gel fuel really stinks too, yes? I accidentally sniffed it full-on. But we managed to make some traditional swiss fondue with gruyere and ementaller. it was really good with pears!!

If you think sterno (that stinky gel fuel) smells bad, imagine this: folks who are particularly hard up for alcohol actually DRINK the stuff, straight out of the can or strained through a sock or a piece of bread (although I can't imagine the straining does much to improve the taste or reduce the toxicity of the concoction). And no, I've never been quite that desperate, so don't ask me how it tastes.
